C. Kenneth McEwin
In March 1988, the North Carolina Middle
School Association awarded its first Distinguished Service Award to Dr. C.
Kenneth McEwin, Professor of Education, Appalachian State
University. To further recognize the
significant contribution of this individual, the award has henceforth been
renamed the C. Kenneth McEwin Distinguished Service Award. This award may be presented
to any individual, school, or organization.
Nominations received in previous years will remain in
consideration. The award will be
presented to an individual or to a school or organization
that has had a significant long-term impact on the advancement of middle level
education in North Carolina. The contribution
could be in service, leadership and/or research.
The application consists of the nomination
data form including a one-page narrative and two letters of
recommendation. This information
must be postmarked or faxed no later than November 30th

The presentation of this award is at the
discretion of the NCMSA Board of Directors.
The award will be presented at the North
Carolina Middle School Annual Conference. The winner will not be notified of
his or her nomination or selection; however, the selection committee will
inform the winner’s family so they may make arrangements
to attend the awards ceremony at the conference.
