President's Welcome

Dear Colleague,
Thank you for your interest in the North Carolina Middle School Association. The Association offers both professional resources and support for middle level advocates. You are invited to utilize the Association as a means to provide the very best for this unique age group of students.

The NCMSA offers several publications throughout the year. Our online Journal will keep you up to date on current programs and practices. Our monographs will take you more in-depth on important topics that will impact your classroom and school.

There is no question that education has its "ups and downs" these days, and that education for early adolescents requires a special effort. The North Carolina Middle School Association is the one organization that unites us, no matter what our roles or how our school is organized, in our dedication to the development and overall well-being of your adolescents. Your participation and the participation of your organization is essential. Middle level professionals benefit from the contributions of its members. We all know, however, that the real winners are the kids!

Sincerely,
Jodi Weatherman, President

How the Board is Organized

The Board of Directors is elected to conduct the ongoing activities of the Association. One Director is elected to represent each of the eight educational regions across the state and one Director is elected to represent each of the following areas: classroom teachers, principals, central office administrators, and higher education personnel. All Board members serve a three year term. Officers are elected within the Board and include President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer. Other Ex-Officio members provide additional support to the Board. The Association is a non-profit organization filed under North Carolina Articles of Corporation. Its organizational structure is governed by a constitution adopted by the membership.

Membership

The Association has both individual and institutional memberships. The fee for institutional membership is a sliding scale based on the number of teachers listed in the North Carolina Education Directory. The fee structure also indicates the number of copies of publications received. The membership year for individuals begins the date membership dues are received (anytime throughout the year). The membership year for institutions is July 1 - June 30.
